Determination of comfort indices of fabrics using fabric touch tester (FTT)

Being comfortable with the fabrics that we are wearing is one of elements satisfaction in life. Hence, fabric comfort needs to be quantified order understand factors make it comfortable. However, evaluation often related ambiguity and subjectivity which hinder potential applied widely clothing industry. Therefore, this study aims measure indices by incorporating use a relatively new equipment market; Fabric Touch Tester (FTT). The performance FTT discriminating hand polyester-cotton knitted made airjet, rotor, compact ring-spun yarns two levels twist was analysed. results indicate device can successfully distinguish between considered fabrics. From generated models, input variable relationship were obtained 0.4-0.6 R2 value. type yarn has an obvious influence on thermal conductivity while moderately affected compression recovery surface friction properties Based measured indices, also predictions shows low twisted roughest lowest index 0.02 airjet-based smoothest but hardest i.e. 0.28 0.61 respectively. In comparison other tested fabrics, ring-based softest; 0.7. This suggests feasibility instrument for tactile measurement precision prediction models validated human panels or different measuring methods.
